We’ve been back for a week in Sacramento and we’re watching the river as well as our support account rise. Ryan and I have taken this week to catch up on paperwork and begin some of the planning for our May and June road trip across the country. We both love the people part of our job but there are a lot of emails, phone calls, text messages and lists that have to happen in order to allow for and prepare for as well as make the most of our time with people.Last support update we reported that we were at 45% of our 50% goal but now we are at almost 49%! Although we still have another 50% to go until we’re fully supported, it is encouraging to see people coming alongside us and joining our ministry. God has been providing from generous and unexpected sources. We’re so excited to be this close to our March goal.So what is still needed? As of Friday night we need $150 a month in pledges to reach 50%. This means that just two individuals or couples giving $75 a month could join our ministry and help us reach our goal. Maybe for you a more realistic number is $20 a month and about 8 people at $20 a month can enable Ryan and I to attend the July training. It’s easy to give by contacting MTW (Mission to the World) or using their online giving site: donations.mtw.org.Please continue to spread the word. Thank you to everyone who has been advocating for us. We love sharing our story and meeting new people. Advocating is as easy as talking about Australia and encouraging others to find out about our ministry (Why Australia?) and give. Please keep praying for rain and for our support. Please pray for more rain and for the rivers and lakes to continue to rise in California. We have enjoyed watching the river rise as we continue to work towards our support for Australia. Please pray that we would be above and beyond 50% by the end of March. And finally please be praying how you can support us. Thank you for helping us get to Australia!
“As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Luke 21:1-4Ryan and I have the privilege of being blessed by the “widow’s nothing”. Of course we celebrate, are humbled by and abundantly thankful for the larger gifts that get us more quickly to our milestones but we are humbled in a different way and doubly blessed by the gifts we receive from people who are giving out of their lack.
This is a great reminder for Ryan and I to focus on where are support ultimately comes from. I find it easy to praise our own support raising strategies when things are going well but get disheartened and turn to God when things aren’t progressing as quickly. God is currently working and providing for us in amazing ways, however, when we’re handed a ministry gift that we know is given out of a humble faith (however great or small), we pause and praise God an extra measure.
Thank you everyone who has given towards our ministry. We know that generosity comes in all forms and are especially grateful to those of you who are giving on faith or out of your own “widow’s nothing”.
We are now safely back in Sacramento. Thank you everyone who prayed for our trip, everyone who hosted us, shared meals with us, treated us to meals and more, everyone who gave up their time to visit with us and hear more about our hearts for Australia. We love and appreciate all of you.God was definitely at work in our relationships and in so much of the trip’s timing. We celebrated and prayed with people. We worshipped and hiked. We enjoyed learning about history and events that happened in places we stopped along the way. We ate and visited, shared stories and made memories. Ryan and I drove over 2000 miles. We ate countless delicious calories. We saw our support needs to reach 50% go from $1800 a month down to $450 a month. We spent less than $100 on car repairs. We experienced about 5 minutes of snow falling and at least a couple inches of rain although Ryan estimates at one point we were just shy of Noah’s flood. We saw 2 state capitols and visited 5 museums. Please keep praying for us as we now reorganize for the next two months of California based travels and support raising. Please pray for our car and the wisdom to know what to invest in and what to just keep driving through. And please continue to pray that God provides above and beyond our 50% support goal by the end of March.
After 14 days on the road, Ryan and I will be leaving Seattle tomorrow to start the last leg of our trip. We have had some amazing times with friends and family along the way. Thank you everyone who has hosted us and will be hosting us this next week. This trip hasn’t been easy but we see God at work.Last support update we reported that we were at 36% of our 50% goal but now we are at 45%! By mid-March Ryan and I need 50% of our monthly support pledged in order to buy tickets for our required July 2016 training which would keep us on schedule to leave by fall 2016. If we don’t reach this goal, we will need to wait for the training in January 2017.
So what is still needed? As of last night we need $550 a month in pledges to reach our mid-March deadline. Ryan and I are both convinced that we will make this goal because of the way God has been working in the past couple of weeks. Although the numbers break down to about 6 people giving $100 a month, we recognize that $100 is a lot of money for most people looking at their monthly budget. Maybe for you a more realistic number is $20 a month and about 28 people at $20 a month can enable Ryan and I to attend the July training. It’s easy to give by contacting MTW (Mission to the World) or using their online giving site: donations.mtw.org.Please continue to spread the word. Thank you to everyone who has been advocating for us. We know it makes a difference. Advocating is as easy as talking about Australia and encouraging others to find out about our ministry (Why Australia?) and give.
Please keep praying. Please pray for God to enable churches and individuals to make room in their budgets for us. Please pray for us to be bold and have wisdom when asking for support. Please pray that we would above all else honor God and relationships during this process. And finally please be praying how you can support us. Thank you for helping us get to Australia!
Tomorrow begins our first major road trip. We hope that this road trip brings us one step closer to our goal of living, working and serving in Western Australia. Please be praying for us as we embark on this journey together.
Last time I drove through the Pacific Northwest I ended up with a shattered back windshield, a cracked front windshield and mono; so we’re hoping for something a little less stressful this time around. However, it’s bound to be eventful because we have lots of meetings scheduled, we’re speaking at a couple churches, we’re connecting with family, old friends and even attending a wedding. Please be praying:
- For safety on the road and for our car to run well. We think we’ve sorted out all the problems but please still pray.
- For communication and our marriage. We will be celebrating 3 years since we first met and two years of marriage on this trip. We continue to learn new things about each other and we are so thankful to have a partner to share the highs and lows with.
- For the relationships with family and friends who we will be connecting with. Pray that we would be able to pick up where we left off whether it has been a month since we’ve seen people, years or in a couple cases decades.
- For our support. We need to hit 50% of monthly pledges by mid -March in order to attend July training this year (the next training is offered in January 2017). We are currently at 32% so please be praying that our support team grows exponentially this month. And please be praying about how you could potentially be a part of our work in Australia.
It’s that time again. It’s been a few months since we’ve written a newsletter and now that we’re making progress hopefully they will be more frequent than every 5 or 6 months. I think quarterly is our goal but we’ll see what happens as we keep moving towards Australia. This newsletter was sent out yesterday, if you would like to receive the news first to your inbox, email us and let us know. Also if you think you should have gotten it via email but didn’t, let me know so I can check to make sure I have your correct email.
In order to read our latest newsletter here, you can click on the picture, this link HERE or our newsletter tab (which will be hopefully moving to our website in the next couple of weeks).Being a blog reader, you get more regular updates but the newsletters hopefully provide a good summary and this one has more about Ryan’s time in Perth and Brookton. Thank you for taking the time to read our latest news as well as pray about how you can be a part of the work that is happening in Australia.
Thanks to you Ryan and I are firmly on the road to Australia. Through your prayers and financial giving so far, we have been able to attend assessments and training during 2015. And we will be full time support raising at the beginning of February 2016.
We are also looking forward to Ryan’s 2 week trip to Australia in January. Although I won’t be able to go with him, this trip is a great opportunity to work on relationships and build a strong foundation for our future in Australia.
Your continued support makes our ministry possible. Thinking of making a tax deductible end of the year donation?
This month, we’re asking people to consider giving towards our one-time financial needs. In addition to monthly support, we also have to raise about $30,000 in order to cover the cost of additional trainings, visa costs, moving costs, plane tickets along with other expenses. Thanks to current giving, we’re already raised about $7,000 towards our goal.
The church we will be working with in Australia is also excited about us coming, so much so that they paid for Ryan’s plane ticket for his trip in January. They are investing in us because of the value they see in our future work in the Wheat Belt, the rural area outside of Perth. We would love for you to also invest in us and our kingdom vision.
Would you be willing to make a special year-end donation of $50, $100 or whatever you can afford to help us meet our goal and get us to Australia in 2016?
We can’t get to Australia without you. Our financial and prayer supporters don’t just give to our ministry, they are a part of our ministry.
Thank you for your continued support and friendship. We’re looking forward to time with many of you in the new year!
